What is Word Aid

Word Aid is an adult learning service where adults in Co. Kilkenny can get help with reading, writing, spelling and basic maths/sums.

Who can come to Word Aid

Adults who have difficulties with reading, writing, spelling or sums or who just want to improve their basic skills or learn new ones. They must be over 16 years and left full-time education.

What does Word Aid do

In addition to offering help with reading, writing, spelling and maths/sums, Word Aid also offer help and support with preparing for health and safety, driver theory and driving tests. All courses and activities are specifically designed to meet the needs of adult basic learners, for example an introduction to computers. Progression routes include FETAC (Further Education and Training Awards Council) Module Certification at Levels 1, 2 , 3 & 4 and ECDL Certification.

If someone missed out in school, got left behind or just feel they need to improve their skills and gain confidence, they are entitled to a second chance. 

Word Aid provides a second chance.

The Word Aid Service is

  • FREE and CONFIDENTIAL
  • You can work on your own or in a small group
  • Classes are held in the morning, afternoon or evening
  • You can learn what you want at your own pace
  • The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and encouraging
  • You can attend tuition at centres around the county.
