County Kilkenny VEC

The Youth Work Act, 2001 Act states that, as far as practicable and within the financial resources available to it, each VEC shall:

  • Ensure the provision of youth work programmes or services by co-ordinating its plans with youth work organisations so as to ensure the provision of programmes and services by those organisations.
  • Providing assistance, including financial assistance to youth organisations in the county.
  • Ensure co-ordination of youth work in the county with education programmes and other programmes that provide services for young people.
  • Ensure programmes are prioritised for young people aged 10-21 years and those who are socially or economically disadvantaged.
  • Monitor and assess youth work that is provided for by the VEC.
  • Prepare a Development Plan for youth work and make all reasonable efforts to ensure that all youth work in the area is provided in accordance with this Development Plan.
  • Establish a Youth Work Committee to advise and make recommendations to the VEC on the performance of its youth work functions.
  • Establish a Voluntary Youth Council to advise on matters relating to the Youth Work Development Plan and to act as a forum for voluntary youth organisations.
