VEC Committee

The Vocational Education Committee is a democratically elected body of 19 members. Nine members are elected by the local authority and a further two by the Kilkenny Borough Council. There are two elected parents and two elected staff representatives as well as a further four sectoral interest representatives. On the current Vocational Education Committee the sectoral interest members include representatives of the main churches, a parent’s association representative and a community group representative. The VEC Committee operates under the terms of the Vocational Education Act 1930 and its subsequent amendments, under which it is empowered to establish and maintain within its area post-primary schools, further and adult education services and a range of student supports.
